Website Care

Managed Website Hosting

Hosting, domains, certificates and platform updates for the websites we build, all handled by us. For owners who would rather not think about any of it.

What we look after

The whole layer between your website and the internet sits with us.

Hosting and deployment

Your site runs on our own platform, served through a content delivery network. We push changes live and clear the cached pages that changed, so you never touch a control panel or an FTP client.

Domain registration and DNS

We register and renew domains in your name, hold the DNS records and make changes to them for you. Email, booking tools and the website all read from the same records, so we keep a note of what each one is doing.

Certificates and security updates

HTTPS certificates are issued and renewed automatically on the bare domain and the www version. Platform and security updates are applied by us across every site we host, so there is no plugin queue waiting on you.

Monitoring, backups and recovery

We watch whether the site is responding, back it up automatically and keep the backups away from the server. If a change breaks something, we roll back to the previous version rather than repair it live.

What managed hosting covers

Managed website hosting means the server, the domain, the certificates and the software updates are our job rather than yours. There is no control panel to log into and no renewal notices to act on. If something needs doing, we do it.

That is a different arrangement to buying hosting from a provider. With ordinary hosting you rent the space and everything above it stays yours: the updates, the backups, the security patches, the DNS records, the certificate renewals. Managed hosting moves that whole layer over to us.

The server is the easy part. It is the domain, the DNS, the certificates and the updates that need somebody's name against them.

Web hosting on our own platform

Every site we host runs on our own platform. That matters for hosting specifically, because we are not maintaining somebody else's stack of plugins. There is no plugin update queue, no combination of add-ons that stop working together after an automatic update, and no theme that has to be patched separately from the software underneath it.

Pages are cached and served from a content delivery network, so a visitor gets a copy from a nearby location instead of waiting for the page to be assembled from the database. Images are processed when they are uploaded, resized for the layouts they appear in and served in modern formats. When we publish a change, the cached copies are refreshed straight away, so it is live within seconds and there is no cache plugin to purge by hand.

How this is priced

Hosting is one half of the monthly fee for sites we build and host, alongside website maintenance. One plan, one bill, nothing separate. What the monthly fee covers.

More information

Domain registration and DNS

We register domains, renew them and hold the DNS. The domain is registered to you, and we will transfer it away whenever you ask.

DNS is the part that catches people out. Email, the website and any booking or payment tools all read from the same set of records, so a change made to fix one thing can quietly break another. We make those changes, keep a note of what each record is for, and set the certificates up so the site serves over HTTPS on both the bare domain and the www version, with one redirecting to the other.

Updates, versions and getting a site back

Platform updates are applied by us across every site we host, so a fix reaches all of them together rather than waiting for someone to notice a notification. Every published change is kept as a version, so any page can be put back to how it was before an edit. Every form submission is kept on our platform as well as emailed to you, so a filtered inbox cannot lose an enquiry.

If a site goes down, the work is the same each time. Confirm whether the problem is the site, the DNS, the domain or the network. Fix the layer that is broken rather than the one that is easiest to reach. If a change caused it, roll back to the previous version instead of trying to repair it live. Then tell you what happened in plain terms, rather than pointing you at a status page.

Common questions

Do I get a control panel login?
No, and that is the point of the arrangement. There is no panel to configure, no software to update and no renewal notices sitting in your inbox waiting to be acted on. When something on the site needs changing, you tell us and we make it. Everything underneath it is ours to run.
Can you host a website you did not build?
Not as it stands. Our hosting is tied to our own platform, so a site built elsewhere would need rebuilding on it first. If you are looking at moving, send us the address and we will tell you honestly what that would involve.
Who owns the domain?
You do. We register it in your name and manage the renewals and DNS on your behalf, but the registration is yours. If you ever want to move it to another provider, ask and we will release it.
What happens when the site goes down?
We work through the layers in order: the site itself, then DNS, then the domain, then the network. That tells us which part is broken instead of guessing. If a recent change caused it, we roll back to the version that worked, then explain what happened in plain terms.
Do I need to worry about plugin updates or security patches?
No. Because every site runs on our own platform rather than an assembly of third-party plugins, there is no update queue to keep on top of and no add-ons that can stop working together after an automatic update. When we patch the platform, every site we host gets the patch.

Want us to take the hosting on?

Send us your web address. A real person reviews how the site performs today and sends you a plain report within one working day. It is the first thing we would look at before saying what moving it would involve. No automated score, no obligation.
